Meet the Faculty

Graceland's 2020 Performing Arts Camp faculty is ready to TCB!

Katelyn Nichols, who has headed up the first two Graceland Performing Arts Camps, resumes her duties as camp's curriculum director and brings along familiar faces to her team in 2020!

Get to know the faculty below!

Katelyn Nichols
Camp Director

Katelyn has always been passionate about bringing arts education to kids and teens. After working as the resident acting coach at other studios for several years, she took a leap of faith and founded K. Nichols Studio in the summer of 2016, primarily coaching aspiring actors through FaceTime and Skype. She worked behind the scenes for several years building her knowledge of the business by working for Jonas Group Entertainment (clients included The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and Jordin Sparks), talent agencies in both LA and NYC, and three casting offices for Broadway and Off Broadway shows, TV/Film, and commercials. Her wealth of knowledge provides students with an inside look at the magic (and madness!) behind the scenes and gives students a grounded approach to auditions and the business as a whole. In addition to working with kids and teens, she works as an Executive Coach to business leaders around the world with clients from multiple Fortune 500 companies, including GM, Cisco, GE, and BorgWarner. In her spare time, Katelyn continues to work toward earning additional yoga certifications (she’s already certified as a Kids/Teen yoga instructor) and works with Charity: Water to raise money for a well she hopes to fully fund by 2025 in Uganda.

Joel Valdez

Music Director
Joel Valdez is a veteran instrumental and vocal music teacher at Memphis’ Overton High School, has led the school’s Overton Ovation band for seven years and has performed with several popular Memphis bands for the last 20 years.

Hayley Bell

Acting Director
Hayley Bell is a sophomore at Watkins College studying to get her BFA in Film. She has participated in a wide range of the performing arts including theater (performance and tech), choir, and dance. Throughout high school, she participated in ten productions with credits including Babette in "Beauty and the Beast" and Hermia in "A Midsummer Night's Dream." She has also participated in choir since she was eight and has ten years of dance experience, having studied ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical.

Mckenzie day
Dance Director
McKenzie Day is a dancer, teacher, and choreographer from Franklin, Tennessee. After earning her BA in Dance and English Literature at Western Kentucky University, she taught various dance styles in studios, recreation centers, and schools in the Nashville area. When Day relocated to Memphis, she began teaching for New Ballet Ensemble and dancing and choreographing for the tap company, Hot Foot Honeys. McKenzie teaches dance to kindergarten through 5th grade students at Vision Prep Charter School in Memphis, TN and enjoys seeing the way the art of dance has enriches children's learning and everyday lives.  McKenzie cannot wait to return to Graceland Performing Arts Camp and work with the campers to see the magic of musical theater unfold!
