The Guardian Shares Elvis' Letter to President Nixon in 1970

On December 21, 1970, Elvis approached the security guard at the northwest gate of the White House. He hand delivered a letter for President Nixon requesting a visit and expressing interest in becoming a "federal agent at large" in the war on drugs. Elvis believed he could help because he was able to communicate with the younger generation and had been recently nominated as America's Ten Most Outstanding Men for his work in the area. After speaking with Elvis, Egil "Bud" Krogh was convinced of Elvis' sincerity and arranged the meeting between the king and President Nixon.
