Remembering Elvis' Imperial Joe Moscheo

Joe Moscheo, who sang and performed with Elvis in the 1960s/1970s as part of The Imperials, died on Monday, January 11, 2016. Joe was not only part of the phenomenal group that joined Elvis on stage for his return to Vegas in 1969, he was also part of Elvis’ 1971 gospel recording of “He Touched Me,” an album that earned Elvis his second Grammy Award, Best Inspirational Performance for 1972.

“Joe Moscheo was a dear friend of ours and an immensely talented singer, musician and arranger for The Imperials. Elvis loved Joe, and treasured their performances together on stage in Las Vegas and in the studio. Elvis loved Gospel more than any other music genre, and Joe was a big part of many of Elvis’ greatest Gospel performances. After concerts, Elvis and Joe would often sing Gospel songs around a piano, long into the night, which are cherished memories for us. Our hearts go out to Joe’s family, friends and fans around the world. He will be deeply missed. ”  -- Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley

“Everyone at Graceland is deeply saddened by the passing of our good friend, Joe Moscheo. We were so fortunate to have Joe and The Imperials perform many times here at Graceland during Elvis Week and in acclaimed touring productions around the world celebrating Elvis’ legacy. Elvis fans loved Joe and greatly appreciated his incredible work with Elvis.  We will miss him tremendously.” -- Jack Soden, CEO, Elvis Presley Enterprises/Graceland
