Memphis Native Grace Askew Calls Elvis Her Guardian Angel to Rolling Stone

Self-titled bluntry (blues and country) songstress Grace Askew has wrapped up her performances on NBC's "The Voice" and recently cut a new album at the legendary Sun Studio. In an interview with RollingStone.com, the Memphis-native credits the raw bluff city sound as her driving force and describes what it was like to perform in the footsteps of Elvis at Sun Studio.

"It was just so surreal. I feel like Elvis is like my guardian angel. All these things in my life have involved Elvis, from my first crush to the first CD that I ever bought. I did a little one-hour session at Sun when I was 19, but little did I know that eight years later I'd be cutting an album where all my heroes had been. It was such a blessing to be able to cut an album there."

Askew, known for touring in her pick-up truck and sporting a bee-hive, recently debuted her new song "Wild Heart." In response to where her inspiration comes from, Askew put it best, "I keep re-falling in love with Memphis over and over the last couple of years. I've been on the road so much, but every time I come back home it reminds me of my roots, so I keep writing songs that involve that Memphis sound."
