Elvis Week Recap Day 2 - Paying Tribute

The phrase "Elvis tribute artist" is a meaningful one.

First all, it's all about Elvis - obviously. 'Tribute artist' means you're paying respect - and in a creative way. That's exactly what happened on the second day of Elvis Week 2019.

The big headline: Taylor Rodriguez, 21, from Virginia, was named the 2019 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist. Like so many of his fellow Elvis fans, Taylor was introduced to the king's music by his aunt, who was a big fan. His favorite Elvis song is "How Great Thou Art," which was his aunt's favorite Elvis song, too. And, like Elvis, he likes to give back - he volunteers with youth in his community. Taylor's passionate performances in the competition show how serious he is about paying his respects to the king. Learn more about Taylor - and watch him find out he won the contest in this Facebook Live.

Congrats to Taylor, and to runner up Radney Pennington and third-place winner Cote Deonath.

And speaking of paying tribute - earlier in the day, three of our Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist winners, Dean Z, Shawn Klush and Jay Dupuis, performed in an intimate unplugged show at The Guest House at Graceland Theater. On a stylish, Jungle Room-inspired stage, the guys shared stories, talked about why they love Elvis and performed some of their favorite Elvis songs - including lesser-known tracks that they don't typically perform on stage. It was a completely unique show that celebrated diverse Elvis' songbook.
