The fifth day of Elvis Week was full of sentimental moments.
The day began with the Conversations on Elvis; Co-Stars panel, hosted by Tom Brown. Guests for this panel were Darlene Love, who appeared in “Change of Habit” and sang alongside Elvis in the “’68 Comeback Special”; Michael Dante, who co-starred with Elvis in “Kid Galahad”; Millie Perkins, who co-starred with Elvis in "Wild in the Country"; and Ginny Tiu, who co-starred with Elvis in "Girls!Girls!Girls!"
Ginny Tiu is also an accomplished pianist, and she performed a lovely Elvis medley that she always includes in her concerts. The medley included "Blue Hawaii," "Love Me Tender" and "Can't Help Falling in Love."
Darlene Love was reunited with '68 Special Director Steve Binder, who made a surprise appearance at the end of Darlene's appearance.
That afternoon, Graceland's Vice President of Archives Angie Marchese and Tom Brown hosted Inside the Archives at The Guest House at Graceland. Gladys Presley, Elvis' mother, passed away 60 years ago yesterday, so the event was dedicated to her. Angie showed rarely-seen photos of Gladys and read a few of her letters, and brought a necklace and the black velvet dress that Gladys wore to Elvis' Army induction ceremony for fans to see. Check out a brief video below.
Angie also talked about Gladys' original headstone, which was placed in the Meditation Garden yesterday. Learn more about Gladys' headstone.
Elvis fans went to church at the Graceland Soundstage last night! Former members of JD Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, Bill Baize, Donnie Sumner, Larry Strickland and Ed Hill, and Elvis' Imperials, featuring Terry Blackwood, Darrell Toney and Lynn Royce Taylor, put on powerful performances at The Gospel Music of Elvis Presley Celebration Concert.
Elvis Week blogger Jon Waterhouse shares the top 5 moments of the concert, plus an interview with Donnie Sumner, on today's Elvis Week blog. Read it now!
