Elvis and Nixon Met 45 Years Ago Today

Forty-five years ago today, the King of Rock 'n' Roll met the President of the United States.

Elvis was in Washington D.C. on December 21, 1970, and asked to meet President Richard Nixon. The two became fast friends and Elvis, who loved to collect police badges, convinced the President to give him a United States Department of Justice badge. The badge, as well as the pin, jacket and cuff links Elvis wore at the meeting, are currently on display at Elvis at The O2 in London.

The photo of the president and the king is one of the most well-known and requested photographs of all time.

Elvis’ friend Jerry Schilling and Egil “Bud” Krogh, a White House official and FBI liaison, were both in attendance that day. The pair shared their memories of that day at Elvis Week 2012. Watch the video below, and visit Graceland.com/President to learn more about Elvis' presidential connections.
