Candlelight Vigil

AUGUST 15. 9:00 PM – 12:00 AM

In order to adhere to social distancing guidelines and capacity restrictions set in place by local authorities, and to ensure the safety of our employees, guests and other personnel, the annual Candlelight Vigil on August 15 will be more limited than in past years and a free reserved ticket will be required for all who attend.

Currently, all tickets for the 2020 Candlelight Vigil have now been reserved.

On the evening of Saturday, August 15, all attendees are asked to arrive at the security checkpoint on Elvis Presley Boulevard between 15-30 minutes prior to your assigned procession time. Attendees will not be allowed through the security checkpoint more than 30 minutes prior to your procession time.

Upon arrival at the security checkpoint, attendees will be required to present their Candlelight Vigil ticket which shows the reserved procession time. After passing through the security checkpoint (see more details on security below), attendees will be allowed onto the street located in front of Graceland Mansion, where they will be able to wait until their procession time to Meditation Garden is called. While waiting, attendees must remain 6’ social distanced from other waiting groups and must stand in groups of 6 or less people.

As procession times are called, attendees holding tickets for that time will be allowed to enter the queue line in front of the Graceland wall. In the queue line and throughout the procession up to Meditation Garden, attendees will be required to maintain a 6’ social distance from other groups and stay in groups no more than 6 people. There will be markers on the street and driveway to help guide.

Candles will be handed out at the Graceland front gate for those who need them, and the candles maybe lit on torches located just inside the front gate. The procession will continue up the Graceland driveway through Meditation Garden and then back down through the gates.

Attendees will be asked to keep the procession line moving and will not be allowed to stop, sit or wait in Meditation Garden. Upon exiting the driveway, attendees will be immediately directed outside the security area to keep the street free and clear for our next procession time.

There will NOT be an opening ceremony and you will not be able to sit and gather on the street during the night as in past years. Once fans access the street for the procession, they will be required to join the queue line when their procession time is called or will need to exit the area.

For those who have attended in the past, we know this will look and feel much different. However, this simple ceremony harkens back to the origination of this longstanding tradition and provides a safe way for fans to pay tribute to Elvis Presley.

  • In compliance with the City of Memphis Mask Ordinance, all individuals are now required to wear a face covering while out in public places (effective as of 6/25/2020). Due to this ordinance, all attendees will be required to wear a mask to attend the Candlelight Vigil. Click here to read the mask ordinance.
  • Attendees must remain socially distanced from other groups by at least 6’ and may not stand in groups of more than 6 people.
  • Guests may not sit or remain on Elvis Presley Blvd. throughout the evening. Once entering the street area after you have passed through the security checkpoint, you will be required to either be waiting for your procession time to be called or in the procession line.
  • No large bags or folding chairs (including camera bags, backpacks, shopping bags, coolers, briefcases, or luggage items) will be allowed past the security checkpoint. In addition, no weapons, bullhorns or noisemakers will be allowed.

PARKING - The Memphis Police may begin closing traffic on Elvis Presley Blvd. from Bluebird St. to Craft Rd. as early as noon and no later than 6 p.m. on August 15. However, security-patrolled parking for the vigil will be available throughout the night in the regular Graceland visitor parking facility. Parking is $10 for cars and $15 for oversized vehicles. Vehicles will be allowed to pass through the police barricades to come and go from the parking area all evening.
- At each entrance, security personnel will check each guest and their belongings through bag searches and the use of metal detection devices. We request that guests who need to bring any items – please carry them in a small clear bag.
- Still cameras with or without flash may be used on the mansion grounds; however, camera tripods, selfie sticks, video equipment, movie cameras, tape recorders, music playing devices and radios are strictly prohibited.
- Food items, drink cans and glass containers are prohibited on the mansion grounds. The Graceland/EPE staff will provide a water station  near the front gate.
- Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the Graceland Mansion property. In the interest of the health and comfort of others, smokers on the street and on the plaza property are encouraged to find open, non-crowded areas to smoke.
– Boisterous or otherwise disruptive behavior and loud noise are prohibited on the mansion grounds. Those violating the rules or behaving inappropriately will be escorted from the mansion grounds or Elvis Presley’s Memphis.
FLOWERS OR MEMORIALS - You are welcome to bring single flowers, small bouquets or other small remembrances to place at the gravesite as you walk by in the procession. Larger floral arrangements or memorial displays may be taken to the front gate guard house at any time and Graceland staff will take care of placement. Memorials will not be able to be returned.
- First Aid will be available as needed by contacting any Graceland/EPE staff member or a police officer for assistance.
